Jogging, working out & golf. WTF?

About 6 weeks ago Mrs. No Three Putts dragged me to the gym to join her for a workout. So I reluctantly went and got a week long pass to try it out. Little did I know, I'd become hooked on fitness. It's unreal. I now jog in the morning at 6:00 AM before work, then when I get home in the evening from work I go to the gym and workout.

Heck I even ran in a 5K race after three weeks of training. Race Results - I'm in the 35-39 age group.

Why do I mention this recent fitness bug I've gotten? Because I've played golf 3 times since I started and I have not played better golf in over 10 years. I am trying to figure this all out. I start running, working out and even eating healthy (something I have never done in my life) now all of a sudden I can play golf again. Does getting my lazy ass into shape really equate to better golf? I'm not sure. I think psychologically it has helped me, which in turn has improved the mental part of my golf game.

I get out there now and I do very little thinking. The less thinking I do on the golf course the better. I played today under fairly windy conditions out at Emerald Dunes in West Palm Beach and shot a very solid 81. And to think I could have been at the office today.

A day of golf, instead of work, is like a sore pecker, you can't beat it.

Thats great Larry! I for one think my slump lately may be fitness related...I have not been running and working out or sleeping all that well, but thats all changing with the weather. Let us know if the handicap drops accordingly.

I find your theory to be weak and lacking scientific merit.
The best round of my life was a 69 about 3 years ago.
It came in the middle of a 5 day drinking binge in Vegas.

Congrats on the improvement. I personally find that my fitness routine conflicts with my golfing.

I train for running events lightly from March - June, and golf heavily during that time. I then train heavily for running June - September, and golf lightly.

When I'm training for running I am often too short of time to go to the course or range as much as I'd like.

How it affects my play, I'm not sure. But if it helps yours, good news and keep me informed.

BTW I am also very envious that you can golf now when there is 8 inches of snow on the gorund here in Michigan.

I came across this web page one night sitting in a hotel room so honestly I dont have much better to do. But anyways here I go:
1. Your 5 day drinking binge and shoting a 69 is one of 3 things 1)CRAP 2)you didnt really have to much to drink 3)you are the luckeist man alive
So first off you cant drive a car too well when your had a little to much to drink, so how the hell do you plan on hitting a ball into a hole when drunk.
2. Alright working out does really help your game; I follow a very tight workout thatconsists of a 8 mile run in the morning, 4 hours at the course, 2 hours at the gym, 4 hours at the course, and another 5 mile run at the end of my day. Since I started my workout I have dropped my Handicap from 3.2to a 0.7, and yes that is a USGA confirmed handicap. You can't bullshit someone whos already done it...
And yes I am 100% positive that a workout routine works, due to the fact that I am a State Champion Golfer, and have competed in the U.S. Junior Amatur Open.

going from a 3.2 to .7? How about the fact that you are on the course 4+4=8 hours a day.

To the guy about the hours of play thing, yea thats kind of the point of me writing that but you do have a good point.
